I have had the distinct privilege of being asked by the publisher of this book to review it. The publisher was kind enough to allow me to make this book free on the internet. This would be, in all honesty, the first book of this nature that I have had an opportunity to review.
So, without further ado. I will begin by summarizing the book contents. It consists of three parts. The first part, the Introduction, is “the back cover” of the book and is basically a brief introduction to the reader to the objectives of the book and its contents.
In the first part, the author presents what a manual medicine book means. In the second part, the definition of all terms and abbreviations used throughout the book is presented. This is the manual part. The final part is a group of references.
So, on to the book content. It is broken down into three parts, the first part is brief overview of anatomy and physiology of the GI tract, the second part is the content of this book, namely the gastrointestinal disease in children with their management and the third part is the concepts in medicine and health and provides special reference book to adult.
The first part is so short that I have to shorten it. It states that we have to know our GI tract anatomy and physiology to study medicine and health and discusses the GI tract and its diseases in children and its management.
The second part consists of chapters on acute, chronic and gastrointestinal disorders. Each chapter has an introduction. To provide the reader with an idea of the various content, I have included on this review short excerpts from the chapters, which deal with various GI disorders in children.
The content of this book is well organized and is an easy-to-read book. I found the author very clear and it is easy to understand. There is a glossary at the end of the book which is important for the patient and the doctor.
Special thanks to the author and to the publisher for making this book free for the internet. However, if you are a reader, I would suggest that you borrow a copy from your local hospital.
