The modified neurological severity score (mNSS) was assessed before ischemia (baseline) and at 24 and 48 hours after ischemia, and 72 hours after ischemia. After ischemia, all animals had a significant loss in ALC and RLC without any change in WBCC, ANC, or RNC. There was also significant improvement in neurological recovery from baseline (mNSS at 24 hours, -4.21+/-1.68; at 48 hours, -5.71+/-1.65; at 72 hours, -5.71+/-1.65) in all dogs treated with IVIG therapy. However, there was no statistically significant improvement in neurological recovery in dogs treated with a sham procedure (mNSS at 24 hours, -3.56+/-1.25; at 48 hours, -5.00+/-1.50; at 72 hours, -6.00+/-1.24). Compared to controls, the IVIG group demonstrated a significantly lower mNSS at 48 hours (P=0.02) and 72 hours (P=0.01) and higher mNSS at 24 hours (P=0.01).
