SIPAST is the very first version of such a tool that allows you to create 3D terrain surfaces from the exisiting 2D drawings in OpenStreetMap. It is a quite advanced tool. Every surface can be treated individually. This video shows you how you can create different types of surfaces and how you can show the proper level of detail for different types of terrain and use the MipMap to get more details for the terrain itself. You will also learn what are the pros and cons of the tool itself. You can always retopo the 3D surfaces you create by yourself. You can also take your created 3D surfaces to Sketchup and have the geometry as 2D surfaces directly for the Sketchup model. A lot of Sketchup users use the SIPAST as the basis for their 3D models and then work on the geometry in Sketchup. SIPAST and Sketchup work quite nice together. Note that SIPAST does not create real 3D terrain models. It is just a tool to easily create a textured 3D terrain surface from a 2D drawing. Depending on the 2D drawing it makes a vector mesh out of it. It is an artistic tool. The results are very good and can be worked on to create new textures. This video tutorial is about using SIPAST to create realistic terrain surfaces for building games. You can learn how to use SIPAST to create real 3D terrain and you can see how to get more details of the surfaces. Your comments are always welcome!
