In its 30-year history, FX’s period drama The Americans has always had an end in sight. Before the M:I: V season two finale aired, the creative team behind the show had mapped out a specific time frame for the drama to end: after two seasons, the series’ protagonists, two KGB spies posing as a married couple in 1980s America, will enter the 30th year of their covert service to their respective countries, and when the year is up, the pair will finally have their “big day” in their intended location: the Soviet Union.
In May, The Americans Twitter account shared a graphic that detailed the span of time the show would be on air, with the date of next year’s April broadcast in U.S. network TV history.
And while the team behind the show has certainly shown a lot of confidence in the quality of the show’s upcoming season, in a recent chat with the Los Angeles Times, showrunner Joe Weisberg offered up a rather intriguing and surprising detail about season three’s structure. While it remains to be seen whether the series will come to a close in 2018, Weisberg says the idea of wrapping up after two seasons is all but set in stone: the team has already “already conceived and kind of fleshed out the third season, and [will] be shooting the third season next year.”
This information was corroborated by Weisberg’s fellow showrunner, Graham Yost, who also teased, “[I]f you could know the ending of a show a year early, you would be really happy and satisfied with your life, you wouldn’t be doing that. We would be really happy and satisfied with our lives if we had the ending and everybody else didn’t.”
The third season of the hit series, which garnered 10 Emmy nominations last year and can be viewed in its entirety on FX right now, has revealed and shifted a number of narrative details since it returned for its second season. Everything from the surprise homosexuality reveal in the season two finale (which earned Matthew Rhys an Emmy nomination for his turn as Philip and Elizabeth Jennings’s eldest son) to the revelation that the couple has been living with their KGB handler (Margo Martindale) for years as a married couple. In the third season, the Jennings’ move west of the Mississippi River to Arkansas — which has
What’s New in the?
This invention relates to an improved system for dividing data among a plurality of storage resources in an iterative manner and, more particularly, to such a system for dividing image data into frames for storage in a time-multiplexed fashion.
In a system such as that disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,688,227 issued Aug. 25, 1987, the data is divided into a plurality of frames and these frames are distributed to a plurality of storage devices in a time-multiplexed fashion. In the system of this patent, the frames are divided into subframes and the subframes are distributed to the storage devices in a time-multiplexed fashion.
Image data is comprised of a number of pixels or picture elements. For example, a color display tube comprises an array of pixels, each of which is capable of displaying one primary color. Hence, an array of 1024.times.1024=1,048,576 pixels can be displayed on a color display tube which is capable of displaying in red, green and blue, respectively. Hence, the data rate for an image having 1024.times.1024 picture elements is 1,048,576 pixels.times.1.023 MHz=1.06 GHz (assuming that the data rate of the image is 1 MHz).
Thus, in a system to which the present invention pertains, image data in the form of a stream of data bits is divided into a plurality of data frames, each of which is to be stored in one of a plurality of storage devices. Furthermore, the frames are divided into a plurality of subframes, and the subframes are stored in corresponding ones of the storage devices.
The invention is particularly useful in a system for storing the frames in a time-multiplexed fashion, since the control circuitry and the storage devices can be simplified.
It is also desirable, in a time-multiplexed system, to time-division multiplex the data for each of the frames. The present invention includes a method and apparatus for dividing the frames into subframes in an iterative manner.
It is known that some operators are not satisfied with the format of image data. For example, a color display tube of a video camera may have a resolution of 2048.times.2048 pixels. However, a general purpose color video camera having a resolution of 1024.times.1024 will take a number of shots before the data for all of the shots is stored. Each of the shots comprises an array of 1024.times.
