Where Photoshop Changed Our World
The original version of Photoshop was released by Apple in 1990 and added raster graphics to their Macintosh operating system for the first time. The Pixel-Based Graphics Module consisted of four types of layer: the background, foreground, the mask, and the optical blend. The background and foreground layers determine the appearance of the entire image. The mask layer determines whether the foreground or background layer is used. The optical blend layer allows for the blending of two layers that have been masked by the foreground and background layers.
It’s likely that the pixel-based graphics module led to the next big change for Photoshop in 1997—the introduction of vector graphics and the base layers. The background, foreground, and the mask layers from the pixel-based graphics module could be converted to vector graphics, meaning they would no longer look as true-to-life as pixels, but could be edited on a computer and viewed as completely exact (albeit smaller in file size).

Agree, but I’d offer this real life example, I started several web projects in
my career (even when being paid as a programmer) that were completely waste
time but, later after I got into the “real” business, they changed their
minds…all expenses were for that.
Therefore I’d go with the market, but with the (big) danger of being wrong.
