The author creates an obfuscated ‘call stack’ in the encrypted program. All stacktraces use one base address in the file. Whenever the program calls another function, the program writes a pointer to the new function to the stack, then jumps to the first instruction of the function.

when the obfuscator detects the jmp instruction at the entry of a function, it will scan backwards to the next jmp instructions in the same function, and create a jump counter. Each jmp instruction is encoded with the amount of jump steps, and a position to jump. Whenever the jump counter hits it’s limit, it replaces the jmp with a call instruction which takes the jump counter as the target address.
if the obfuscated program calls a function which writes a return value to a function, it will write the return value to the stack to make the stack trace almost undecipherable. when there’s no return value on the stack, it will use the return address to jump to an address injected by the author on every function.
