I’m building a hobby system using microcontrollers, what’s the best power supply?

I’ve recently picked up some microcontroller space (C6415 and C6416) I plan on using them to build a hobby project of a home entertainment system. It’s a mixture of a screen and speakers.
The system I have in mind is a computer made into a CD player with my own audio codec and LCD screen, connected to a speaker. The screen will be playing a stream of music (MP3) during the day, and then I am planning on having a small LCD screen with a little ticker and volume control.
The system will be powered by a single 12V power supply (I’m not going to use an energy meter because it sounds too boring, and if I use one, I will use a cheap one), and also would require a few other microcontrollers to perform the MP3 decoding and basic DSP stuff that’s going to be running 24/7.
My first idea was to have a power supply that provides 6V for my system and 5V for the other MCs, but since power is often the forgotten one, I wanted to know if there are other ways of doing it. I’m reading the documentation and, as for now, the only thing I’m planning on is RSMT on a 24V output, though I guess I could make it a low voltage (e.g. 10V) on a big capacitor if I need more power to achieve a higher operating voltage on the MCs.
If someone could help me choose the best power supply, I will appreciate it.

Take a look at the Motorola 22Q series ultra low dropout regulators. They are very good, dropping maybe 10mV or so and have very low thermal drift. I like them for all the same reasons as everyone else: cheap and available.
These regulators are available with green PCB’s. You may want to choose a color that matches your other electronics

      I was trying to figure out what to write about for my monthly Wrap Up here, and the last two months seemed to be a bit weird.

      The past two months I spent writing and working on the English version of my game A Desperate Situation from Japanese developer, SugaCube. It’s a game with a lot of content and is considered the first 3D action game in the west. With the Japanese release a couple days ago, and the US release coming soon, I figured I’d write about this experience.

      After I got the English version of the game done, I went ahead and asked SugaCube if they wanted to release it on the US market. This was a long time coming for SugaCube, and I wanted the game to be released in the West. They replied with a lot of positive encouragement and we’ve had a lot of meetings and discussions about how the game would come to the US. I figured in this months Wrap Up I’d cover all of that.

      In case you haven’t played the game, SugaCube has packaged this game with the following features:

      Story Mode
      Story Mode is comprised of 14 main chapters, five additional chapters, and several practice levels. The story is introduced through very short chapters that unfold in front of your eyes, and chapter lengths can be customized.
