    RPGs are more diverse now but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ve lost their appeal for those who have been playing them long enough. I’m of the former camp since I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose the appeal of a game I’ve played since the NES days and before. But things change and the age of gaming consoles has changed too. We’ve been able to see games that have just as much diversity as RPGs but through a more console-oriented, streamlined approach. We had this discussion during our latest Ask Trion AMA discussion on our official website and series of videos, and we came up with some ideas about the future of RPGs that I thought people might appreciate.

    Some people may not know this but if you’re interested in online gaming, you may not be able to play games like Final Fantasy XII, World of Warcraft or League of Legends simply because you don’t have the right hardware to do so. Sure, you can now log into your favorite YouTube game stream to play with friends, but nothing beats the intimacy of sitting next to your flat screen or PC and controlling your character’s movements, along with the rest of the group.     Today, developer inXile announced that it intends to relaunch the classic Planescape: Torment, a classic RPG with deep prose and thousands of choices. The Planescape: Torment that most fans know is the isometric turn-based RPG; however, a PS1-era update being planned for the game will allow it to appear in HD form on PC. A little more than a year ago, inXile expressed interest in relaunching it and the development team is getting closer. Here’s what they said at the time:
