You know you’ve been staring at the wrong bowl of cereal for far too long when you suddenly realize it’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon and you’re playing video games instead of spending all day playing football with the guys. Why are you wasting your time on a strategic tale of swords and sorcery when you could be using that time to catch up on all the football you missed over the past week?

I have to admit, I’ve never been a big fan of ARPG’s. Think about how much time and money that we sink into such games. Sure, it’s fun to pick a badass hero class, but then what? You can only play for so long before you start hating the fact that your character has a limited health pool. And then there are those multiplayer-only games… They’re really only good as social endeavors and the reason why I’ve never really been that comfortable with them. However, that being said, none of this is really relevant to ARPG’s past, present or future. The New Fantasy ARPG with the Fabled Elden Ring is doing something different. While the formula is already rather established, Bandai Namco has added a ton of new content, which ultimately leads to a much higher experience. The game features a brand new story with a huge open world, tons of content and a storied and complex character creation system. It’s quite possibly the best ARPG I’ve played in a long time.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m amazed at the amount of content that Bandai Namco has managed to squeeze into such a relatively short game. The story is interesting, the gameplay is entertaining and innovative at times, and the game is absolutely phenomenal.
