Now, as 2013 draws to a close, the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) at Carnegie Mellon University has turned its attention to the two other kinds of CAD applications—online and cloud—which are poised to invade the workflow of CAD operators. HCIL released a new mobile app and an online access tool (Appropriate), both built to extend the capabilities of the AutoCAD platform.

At the center of the HCIL strategy is a new design tool that HCIL co-founder and CMU professor Eric Simonoff calls a “task-management app” for mobile computing. The Appropriate tool is intended for two types of users—those who work with AutoCAD on a desktop in the office and those who take AutoCAD on the road. In many respects, the Appropriate app serves as the AutoCAD counterpart to the Adobe Photoshop Mobile app, which offers a mobile workflow for Photoshop users.

“We had this idea that what would be really useful in AutoCAD would be a hybrid app that would take advantage of some of the techniques that mobile users are very familiar with,” said Simonoff. “You’re used to being able to make your files available to you anywhere you are. You’re used to having a quick view of your files, to rearranging and moving files, just as you would on a desktop. So we thought we’d apply those techniques to AutoCAD and let people make sense of their file wherever they are.”

The Appropriate app is one of the first application created with Simonoff’s notion of the “task-management app.” By incorporating the mobile interfaces from the App Store, he has applied the familiar features of these mobile apps—like drag-and-drop file management and quick-look viewing—to AutoCAD. “But the reason we made this app a hybrid app is that we wanted to take the user experience even further,” said Simonoff. “I wanted to make it really easy for users to work with their CAD file on their mobile device and take advantage of this hybrid of desktop and mobile interface.”

Cody Fajardo (born October 13, 1991) is a professional Canadian football quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted by the Roughriders in the third round of the 2014 CFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Saskatchewan.

Early life
Fajardo grew up in Lloydminster, Alberta and attended Lloydminster Collegiate. He played for the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Football League.

College career
Fajardo played his college football at the University of Saskatchewan. After redshirting as a true freshman in 2010, he appeared in all but one of the Huskies’ thirteen games during his junior season. That season, he led the conference in passing efficiency and completed 84 of 135 passes for 1,098 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Fajardo began his final collegiate season as the starting quarterback for the Huskies. In eleven games, he completed 226 of 314 passes for 2,844 yards and 28 touchdowns and also rushed for 552 yards and five more scores on 119 carries. Fajardo was named a second-team Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Canadian at the end of the season. He was also named a CIS Western Champion.

Professional career

Fajardo was selected by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 CFL Draft. He was the first quarterback selected by the Roughriders since they selected Kevin Glenn with the first overall pick in 2006. Fajardo attended the CFL Combine, but was unable to participate in drills due to an injury to his throwing arm.

Fajardo signed with the Riders on May 28, 2014. The Riders announced that they intended to use Fajardo as the backup to Darian Durant. Fajardo’s father, Terry Fajardo, was the head coach for the team’s pre-season training camp. Fajardo played the first eight games of the 2014 season for the Roughriders, where he completed 4-of-6 passes for 21 yards, in relief of Durant. Durant missed the next game while recovering from a shoulder injury and Fajardo remained the starter for the remainder of the regular season.
