People have seen the almost-dead underwater civilizations that broke away from our own world. The lums were able to isolate themselves, you see. Hydrogren filled their cities and lightyears away, they watched, they did nothing.
That was the day the lums broke free. It was supposed to be a day of rejoicing, a celebration, but no one saw it that way. They just saw it as the massacre of the world.
In Other Waters, you take on the role of a lumen commander and put on the battle dress. You’ve been called upon to assemble a team of elite divers in order to bring help to the world, where there’s a thousand years of lumen history to uncover. You’ll make it through all the dangers of the underwater world and uncover a great mystery. What was the lumen’s purpose? What happened on the day they rose above the waters? Who are the newly discovered people? Are they friends, or are they enemies? How did they get here? What do they want?

The game tells the story of a group of scientists who are part of the government delegation sent to investigate the mysterious new found artifact. They are pursued by an unknown force that tries to prevent them from reaching the artifact.
The game mixes old school exploration with grid based map generation. You have to pick your movement paths carefully to avoid enemy encounters. The level map shows potential routes.
The game was originally supposed to be released in 2015, but was delayed.

About The Game
You play as the six divers who, after having suffered the traumatic events that initiated humanity into the underwater realm, now fight for their survival in the hostile and inhospitable new world. You are the cause of the ongoing conflict between man and lum and, yet alone, also the solution. The journey to the truth of what you are and who you are destined to be begins in this spectacular underwater adventure!

    In The Dangers of Forcing Young People to Learn Programming

    The Compiler Paper / Bensim The Compiler Paper aka “Bensim The Compiler Paper” is a well-known hobbyist’s paper published monthly by Simon Collison at his blog, Making Sense of C.

    It has a large and active following of fans and readers, and its articles have received considerable recognition both from within the community and from people outside of the C community. Simon and I have worked together in the past to give talks at conferences and give interviews, and I’ve always felt that this very readable paper is the best place to start to learn about C.

    This month, at the event where I presented, Tim Davenport asked whether we could include it in the talks given at the event. I had to pass, because part of my job at WIPO is to shepherd inside-government papers through the bureaucratic sludge that is the U.S. patent system.

    When I first learned about the paper, I was touched. Here was a hobbyist with a hobby who also loves and helps his fellow hobbyists. It’s like hearing that a famous chef makes homemade cakes for every customer that finds their way to his restaurant. He also paid for a Grant from a National Science Foundation for the paper, so he apparently felt that it was important.

    It’s true that this could be another good hobby. I just worry that it’s another good hobby that’s pulling the carpets from under too many young people who really would like to pursue useful programming and computer science like this hobbyist.

    The paper has many advantages. It is available for free on his blog. Yet its accessibility has both a blessing and a curse.

    Omensight is a surreal, atmospheric first-person detective adventure. While you play as a Police Officer, Thereson Tramdann – a renowned economist who went missing during the economic crisis – has telekinetically floated through your apartment, leaving behind a puzzle for you to solve. You must search your apartment for clues, including a strange red orb, which leads you to his lab and the other clues he has left for you. Thereson’s disappearance has put the world on the brink of economic collapse. This world has been reeling from an economic crisis for ten years. This has made people suspicious of each other. You will follow the clues to Thereson’s past and work to find out what happened to him, in order to try to save the world from collapse.
    Omensight supports online co-op. It has a single player component to take you on a journey with the main character (Thereson), as well as up to four additional players online simultaneously.
    Style and Atmosphere:
    The game is set in a (very) small, far-future city. Thereson Tramdann is a well-known economist who has disappeared with no trace. A frantic search ensues in his wake, with the police and the media descending on the city to try to find him. You are the Police Officer tasked with finding out what happened.
    The atmosphere in the game is one of intrigue and paranoia. It is a heavy game in style and mood.
    Gameplay:
    The Detective Scene System is the core of the game. Thereson was a world-renowned economist before he disappeared, and Thereson’s solution to each of the puzzles in the game is most likely based on his academic experience.
    Omensight is a single-player detective game, that offers substantial clues and hints in a semi-narrative format that plays out as the player steps through each room and makes key decisions.
    Thereson Tramdann – the player – is there to help you work out what happens, with a few choice lines to keep you on track.
    Thereson was an economist before the crisis, and the town is full of mathematical and logical puzzles. You will use ‘The Detective Scene System’ to ‘solve’ the puzzles. It’s a mathematical, logical puzzle solving game in which you will solve puzzles like a detective.
