is a scrolling shooter developed by Arika and first released for the Game Boy in 1995. Chaos Battle Universe is a title within the Clover game series and is the first game in the series where control is not handled using a stylus, but rather with a shoulder pad and four face buttons on the cartridge. Chaos Battle Universe is the first game in the series to be published by Enix and have the license of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.

Chaos Battle Universe was very well received for its gameplay, score, graphics, and platforming elements, but was received poorly for its rudimentary engine.

Gameplay
As opposed to the horror-styled 7th Dragon, Chaos Battle Universe features an action-genre. Gameplay consists of performing attacks with weapons and spells. 8-direction scrolling and a fixed camera on screen is used, and there are many platforms to scramble between and avoid traps.

Gameplay mechanics include executing moves, using a shield and a power-up. Shielding can be activated onscreen, and when up, attacks deal more damage. Double-shields come equipped whenever a move is executed. Once a move is scored, the power-up types are randomly distributed. There are a total of 8 power-ups, 4 of which can be used for offense. Those include Wing Shield, Zen, Boosts Strength, Boosts Intelligence and Boosts Stamina. Boost Stamina allows the player to jump longer and higher, while boosting the attack strength of weapons, boosting down down-time, and increasing the amount of missiles fired per turn.

Plot
The protagonist on a mission to erase the super computer Grayseal, who refuses to relinquish the people of Rune Valley’s digital beings, leaves Rune Valley with a group of companions and takes a plane towards Rune Valley’s central computer complex. They venture into the complex when the computer system goes completely out of control and send them to a computer. There they encounter the enemy computer, Urchal, who the protagonist nearly manages to have a battle with. Urchal reveals Grayseal was created when the earth was cracked open and a race of potent neurons evolves.

In the year 2064, Earth has been completely self-sufficient in terms of food. The war has ended, and the population of 2.7 billion people has been reduced to a mere 200 million by sickness and the plague. The remaining survivors are not unduly worried, however, as the wave of a giant robotic arm has deposited a daily ration of food on the surface of the planet.

Gameplay & Controls:
You control AICN in this game, but it’s not a simple task. To begin with, you have to control the growth of your AICN, as well as the chemical and mechanical arms that dig up the dirt, the machete arms that chop down trees and the kinds of arms that carry the dirt away in your giant vacuum. You can even order your AICN to fall asleep so that you can rest and recuperate more quickly.
AICN’s growth (i.e. its ability to eat, sleep, reproduce and tear the food down into dust) depends on the food it eats, so keep an eye out for the term “feed time” when you begin playing. And don’t worry too much about the game locking you out when your feed time goes too high. You can easily reconnect to the game anytime you wish to.
This game is fairly challenging, but it also has a lot of depth. You have your standard button mashing, of course, but you also have a process bar (provided by your AICN) with which to determine what your AICN should
