The deputies of Sevastopol appealed to the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn with a demand to grant political asylum to the ex-governor of Sevastopol Serhiy Menyailo, who was previously arrested on suspicion of organizing mass riots on the peninsula.
Acting Minister of Health of Sevastopol Larisa Novoselskaya said that the appeal to the Constitutional Court “under the current conditions provokes the opening of a criminal case against the mayor” of the city Alexei Chaly, which, according to her, violates freedom of expression.
The governor of Sevastopol, Sergei Menyail, previously suspected of organizing riots, became a defendant in a criminal case. According to representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he is charged with organizing mass disorder in the city in the fall of 2014.
Former Deputy Governor of Sevastopol Alexei Yeremeev, who was detained on Sunday, the day before, was released. Recall that this morning it was reported that Eremeev was detained and taken to the investigative committee for the purpose of interrogation. According to media reports, the reason for the detention was the suspicion of a false denunciation of the mayor of the city Aleksey Chaly.
Alexei Chaly, who is suspected of organizing a mass disorder and participating in an illegal armed formation (IAF), was put on the federal wanted list on July 31. On Wednesday, August 3, he was arrested: a criminal case was opened against him under two articles of the Criminal Code – “Creation of an armed formation not provided for by federal law” and “Encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer.”
The deputy governor of Sevastopol, Sergei Nazarov, is leaving his post, Alexei Chalov, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the city, said on his Facebook page. Nazarov did not disclose the reasons for his decision.
During the meeting of the Sevastopol City Council, the deputies elected Alexander Kulagin as the head of the City Council. Earlier in the election, Kulagin received 5.37% of the vote.
Today, the speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol Alexei Chumak said that he intends to go on vacation with a subsequent move to the mainland. According to the deputy, the criminal negligence investigation, in which he is a witness, played a role in this.
