Fractal Explorer is a small and efficient utility designed for visualizing Mandelbrot set and Julia sets in.FRR and.MXAD file formats. It allows to set a maximum distance on the scale of the image, set maximum depth in the image and determine whether the view is a perspective or orthographic mode. Fractal Explorer includes 16 preset fractal color schemes, including bright rainbow, pastel rainbow, black and white, monochrome and random. The program works in a user-friendly way and it allows to choose the zoom type, zoom to the closest point and zoom out of the view.
Save the content of the selected region to the clipboard using the copy feature. Preset fractal color schemes can be applied to the image in their original order or randomly; the random scheme can be set to any value between 1 and 16; preview images can be collected at a regular interval of time or saved automatically. The program includes an undo function, which allows to easily change the settings. Fractal Explorer’s interface is designed to be intuitively transparent, and a comprehensive help manual is available for reference.
The program supports.MXFR files in addition to a convenient import function.

What’s New In?
My main reason for being there, besides looking at the vintage
open-source CAD software I can add to my toolbox, is to demonstrate the
power of using XML for cross-platform 2D applications.
The goals of any CAD software is to be as flexible as possible.
Unfortunately, most of the software I’ve seen used to date cannot
do this. The experience is usually a bit like an astronaut in a
spaceship looking out through the hull, looking at a rock wall,
and it being drawn as flat. CAD Software Without Borders asks
the question, “Why can’t CAD software draw a perspective view
like automobiles, or free software render 3D landscapes?” By
moving towards a “flat view” model, CAD software has become too
rigid and inflexible for the 21st Century.
Check out the demonstration video, you’ll see the plane make a
360 degree turn and then take off on this 3D rendered plane
view. Much of this software is too rigid to do this. Check out the
code, and you’ll see I had to add lots of, “PlanarView” objects to
the planar drawing. It was all very tedious.
In contrast, the XML-based view engine I describe does not use
third party tools. It can be embedded inside the CAD Software,
drawing a real world, 3D image. This is a major advantage of XML.
Using XML, you can build bridges and railroad crossings that
automate the construction, configure objects that allow for
arbitrary actions in the plane, and deliver an interactive view that
looks like a real world object rather than a flat, 2D
representation of a 3D object.
I’m not trying to sell your product. I just wanted to demonstrate the power of XML as a 2D view engine.
I hope the video illustrates the direction we should be heading.
A “universal” program that could be used for CAD as well as
fractals is something I have wanted for a long time. The
programs I have been looking at that are intended for fractals are
excellent, but they are not really intended to be used on a
large-scale level for high-end CAD.
