I have a 4k (4096×4096 pixel) image and I need to create a 4k image from it that is split up into 4k pieces. It has to be an intuitive process so that I can create a smaller image that is seamless, not confusing or similar to a jpeg.

I have upload image from my iPhone directly to S3, it works fine but the size of the images are not small, I guess it is because the images are not compressed.
If I manually compress them before uploading them, how can I compress them in terminal or is there any other way to it?

Use ImageMagick. If you run it from the command line you can probably just compress all your images with one line:
