Hindsight “waves” J37 Tape Plugin
Gathering dust and thickened tape if left to its own devices, the newly-created Waves J37 Tape Plugin has just been made available to the public. With the help of Warp 9, or better yet, a complete re-imagining of the popular Waves LFOs and new tools like the J37 Tape Plugin, Waves will certainly find itself at the forefront of this current wave of tape-based LFOs. On top of being able to warp an audio track as well as delay, modulate, and loop it, Waves’ new “tape” LFOs can be applied to all of the J37’s built-in features, as well as the frequency, phase, and modulation of the phase, filter, and envelope controls.

The new Plugin is basically a re-imagining of the Waves LFO-FX LFO-2 and LFO-3, as well as the ability to warp audio, apply filters and envelopes to audio, and a new LFO called the J37 Tape LFO. While it’s been out for a little while, the Plugin was just made available to the public. The reason for the plugin’s existence is because Waves wanted to really unleash its Fruity-LFOs and get them into a tape-based workflow.
Built-in features can be used for both the Tape LFO and J37 Tape Plugin. The Tape LFO controls are:
LOOP – The Tape LFO loops your input audio on both sides.
POLY – The Tape LFO is able to warp audio.
WARP – Modulate and apply a filter or envelope to your audio, or just warp it.
FOLLOWS/RESTART – The Tape LFO remembers its settings on both sides and can use them over and over again.
Modulation from the Tape LFO controls is automatic. From the Filter and Envelope Controls, you can choose between the default filter and envelope settings as well as A and D automation. The automation settings for both are different. If you’re using the default filter or envelope settings, any automation settings will be set to Mute. If you’re using the default automation settings, any modulations will be turned on. If you’re using the default filter or envelope settings, the modulations will be turned off by default. The filter and envelope automation of the J37 Tape Plugin will follow whatever settings you use for the Tape LFO controls.
When you apply a filter or envelope to the Audio input, the output of the filter and envelope controls will affect the Audio output. When you adjust the Tape LFO
